A Little Birdie Told Me

I know, shocking!  No green on this card!  But what I did was pretty nice.  I know for a fact that I won't be a marker person.  Well, maybe distressed markers...  I love pencils.  What I don't like is the pencil lines.  I saw a YouTube video to use baby oil to help blend the color.  My thoughts were, it's worth a try.  I colored the birds with two color pencils.  I used Prisma and EK Success memory pencils that I've had for ages.  I used a pointed Fantastix that I barely dipped into the baby oil.  And, voila!  Pure magic! They blended beautifully.

The bird is from Lawn Fawn (Year Four), and the line is from Mama Elephant Confetti.  The sentiment is a mystery, not sure where I got it.  It was stacked with brackets on either side.  I did a little stampectomy, cutting the stamp and piecing it so I could make it a straight line.  I tried stamping HA black ink on the blue paper but it wasn't crisp enough so I chose to emboss it.  And I wanted the word ME to be white (on purpose).

I am putting this in Lesley's challenge (Always Playing With Paper).  I love this simple sketch.  I may try to use this sketch again with a one layer card.

  1. This is such a cute card, love the little bird image and what a great take on the sketch. I've never tried baby oil, glad it worked for you. I use odorless mineral solvent or zest it pencil blend with my prismacolor pencils, they work well too. Cathy x
