Be a Pineapple

When I saw this quote on Facebook (Be a Pineapple: Stand Tall, Wear a crown and Be sweet on the inside)over the summer, my first thoughts went to my daughter.  I found this cutie patootie pineapple at The Cut Shoppe that I machine stitched to give it more texture that a pineapple needs. I added some gray watercolor as a shadow.  Elements from Crate Paper Cute Girl worked very well for this page I think. How appropriate is that crown?!  The word "pineapple" is a cut file that I welded on my Scan N Cut .  The sequins are an iridescent pink from Pretty Pink Posh.

Since I cut into this gorgeous collection, Snow and Cocoa from Crate Paper, it was so much easier to create this page of my daughter and her dog, Baylee.  I want to mention that the photo is so deceiving.  What you don't know is that we are sitting on the edge of the hot tub dangling our feet in the warm water.  It was a bit nippy so we did need our jackets.  The lighting was so beautiful that I had to take this photo.  Impressive that it's my phone's camera.

The sketch is from Paper Issues November Sketch .  My first time to use the adorable jars.  There are so many things to put into the jars but I wanted to keep it simple and embellish the page instead.  I used some chipboard, stickers and transparent ephemera.  The Let it Snow circle is from Clique Kits free download.  Finishing touches of Gold color shine.

November 2016 Layout Share

Ok, I have finally done it.  I haven't made a video in like forever.  There were many things that I was wanting/needing to do before I tried again.  And now the day has come and I did it!

It's kinda long for my first scrapbook related video.  But I do have 29!! pages to share that I made for the month of November.  

I do have another video idea that I am hoping to do very soon and one day, someday, I will do a process video.

I was able to use up some of my scraps and dig into the Crate Paper Gather collection for the very cute layout.  I feel I am late to the party with the fall photos.  Mostly because it doesn't act like fall in Texas until late November and then thoughts are on to Thanksgiving and Christmas.  

The sketch is from Creative Scrappers #300 using this fantastic grid.  This was very popular years ago, glad to see it back.  I used some elements from my Clique Kit Swan Lake, adding some leaf cut files that I had sprayed Heidi Swapp color shine in Mustard, acorns are wood that I found at Target Dollar Spot, flair is from A Flair for Buttons.  The 'hello' is die cut from cork.  Those thin letters make it very fragile.  Accents of gold sequins in two sizes, orange flowers (from The Dollar Tree!) and gold Heidi Swapp color shine.  I used a gold metallic Gelly Roll pen to outine the papers.  The word fall I hand drew and cut.  Fun to make.

BRR! Using Snow and Cocoa

I haven't purchased a large portion of a collection ever until

this one.  I am was so drawn to it and am loving every piece of it too.  I had this page on my desk almost a week, afraid to make the first cut into these beautiful papers.  The embellishments were the easy part.  The flair is from Fancy Pants Wish Season and sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and the rest is the collection.

I chose to print the photos in black and white.  This is my granddaughter last year by the pool.  The clash of the pool blue and her red santa hat was too much.  

I am loving all the sketches that I see at Stuck?! Sketches.  This one is just perfect.  Thank you Laura!

I love sketches.  I use one on almost all my pages.  I find if I don't, all my pages look the same.  I get into a rut and can't get out on my own.  I am in love with Laura Whitaker's sketches.  This is the November 1st sketch from Stuck?! Sketches.  I stayed pretty true to the sketch except the title, where I placed the trio of cork hearts embedded with gold.  The flair is from A Flair for Buttons Etsy Shop.  All the papers are from my scrap bin.  I sprinkled watered down ground espresso distressed ink along with Heidi Swapp Gold color shine.  I tend to gravitate to monotone pages.  I added a few 6mm orange sequins for a touch of color and 4mm brown sequins that I got from Pretty Pink Posh.

It's been a while since I've made this smaller format.  I have to say, I kinda like it.  I am going to keep in my 12x12 album. Looks like I'll need to do another one for the other side of the page protector.

I am a huge fan of sketches.  I am not partial to one site to another, I love them all.  I did like this sketch for the square photo and tags.  I pulled papers from my stash.  Two different shades of woodgrain.  The green I believe is from Basic Grey.  The dark brown is super duper old, at least 10 years and from Pink Paislee.  It was a shaped 12x12 paper that was very popular back then.  I used my Scan N Cut to make a tag from it and used a sliver of the leftover at the bottom right.  The phrases are from Crate Paper Gather in the Rose Gold.  The floral chipboard is from Shimmelle.  I don't have any brown mists, so I thinned out some Ground Espresso Distressed Inks and my handy 10 Round brush for splatters.  Used a few dark brown sequins to even things out.

This stripe is my favorite from the Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness collection.  Luckily I had two sheets of the floral paper so I could fussy cut these flowers.  Black is a perfect accent with these colors.  The ice cream is a 3x4 card.  Since I don't do Project Life style pages, I find these cards a challenge.  Trimming down my photo to 3x4 makes it so much easier to use these cards.

Love the simplicity of the sketch and the beautiful colors of the papers that coordinate perfectly with pool photos.  Able to use quite a bit of chipboard with

a few stickers.  The papers were all outlined with black pen.

The background is a very soft pink. I edged all the papers with black ink which goes perfect with these summer colors. I popped the sun up with fun foam.  More texture with a couple of buttons and another silver heart brad along with a flower brad that I purchased 7-8 years ago.  Sprinkled with black India Ink.

Fall LO for LG Sketchy

Fall LO for Let's Get Sketchy

I am one of those scrappers that love to scrap the season we are in.  Fall is my favorite season and didn't know I had any fall photos that haven't been scrapped.  This photo dates back to 1994!  I had it in color but her coat was brightly colored and didn't go with the fall color theme at all. 

I have put together an Autumn Kit from my stash, just waiting until the weather cooled down (OK, I'll accept 82 degrees for fall in TX) and this photo was just waiting.  And I knew when I saw this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy, (October Week 1) that it was perfect.  

The brown is water downed acrylic paint that I wanted to have drips and sprinkles.  The wood veneer pumpkin I got at Target at the dollar spot. The flair I got from A Flair for Buttons. She has wonderful fall flair.    I love using up some of my stash.

Not exactly summer colors but it was in my kit and I just went with it. Not sure why I had this photo in my photo box in black and white since the top I'm wearing is black and white...go figure.  I was able to use a frame and the photo mat is on vellum.  I did some machine stitching, adding sprinkles.  I know I used Navy Heidi Swapp.  The circle on the photo is Balsa wood that I cut using my Big Shot and added patterned paper.  I found some silver heart brads for this kit.

This is my final page with this kit.  It had way too many black and white papers.  Live and learn.  That me and my oldest, such a sweet pic.  That little one is now 25.  I am so behind getting her baby pics in an album.  Which is funny that I am pretty much caught up with my two younger girls.  Go figure!

I turned the sketch to the left and it worked out perfectly.

Just Plain Cute

I dug deep to get this photo (20 years old!).  It's so sweet seeing them this tiny.  Not sure how all three of them ended up in the tub at the same time.  I liked the sketch because it looks like bubbles.  I did something a little different for me.  I did some watercoloring around the pink bubbles trying to match the mint color at the base.  It was just a plain mint strip that I put two rows of washi tape which totally changed the look.

I used the sketch from Paper Issues, from August 2016.

I recently purchased a Chromebook that I am using to write this blog.  It won't allow to do things that I was used to doing with my laptop, like linking a photo of the sketch from someone else's blog.  As soon as I get it figured out I will post their sketch.  In the meantime, check out via the link.

Pokemon Go!

No, I don't play the game, my girls do as well as half the country.  What a rage this summer!  My daughter is here for the summer (she attends a school in CA and I live in TX).  I live across the street from TWU (Texas Women's University) where my dtr would find all kinds of Pokemon.  I wanted to document this rage because next summer it might be something else.

I followed the sketch pretty closely.  My first time using acrylic paints on a page.  Nice to use up some more tags.  I used 4!

Sewing Haven

Before children, I used to have a little sewing business.  I made mostly bridesmaid dresses.  It wasn't very steady and was for extra money when my husband was getting his engineering degree.  I wanted to document that part of my life that was very important to my past.  Now I only use that same sewing machine on my layouts.

I used this sketch again and it looks so different that the Road Trip Silence.

This page has several papers from the cream kit that I wanted to use up.  I was inspired by a sketch that had all these hexagons and I had that wood hexagon with the green stripes at the bottom left corner of the photo and I just went with it.  Surprisingly, I don't own a hexagon punch.  So I decided to cut them out with my Scan N Cut.  Which sounds like a great idea, except that I didn't cut out hexagons, I cut out octagons!  And I used up all the scraps.  It took me a little while but I managed to salvage all of them.  I used some black and white striped washi along the edges.

I used a sketch from Sketch Savvy #90 as my inspiration.

I was so excited to start this kit that I didn't take a picture of it.  I'll get the hang of it.

Road Trip Silence

This is my final page for this kit.  I am very proud of all that I was able to create.  And I did them all over one weekend, which was pretty nice.    

This photo is around 15 years old.  We would take road trips from TX to AZ driving straight through.  It made it rough on the kids so there were many ways to entertain them.  We had a small portable TV with VHS (way before vehicles equipped with built in video monitors and DVDs).  Occasionally, I would hear silence.  It meant one of two things.  They were either being sneaky and up to no good, or they were asleep.  YES!!  Sleepy heads.

Do You Mind?

I love this diagonal line of this layout.  I swoom over those alphas by Fancy Pants Life is Beautiful.  Reminds me of a calico kitty we used to have.  And speaking of kitty, here she is.  If you have a cat, I know you can relate.  They don't want anything to do with you until you start reading a book or work on your laptop.  Yep, that's what was happening.  She made herself nice a cozy right in the middle of the keyboard.  Excuse me, do you mind?  I used a couple tags, which are really difficult for me to do.  And there is that cute little frame and yes, there is a flair that I got at Tuesday Morning some time ago.
